the majority of police deaths came as a result of self inflicted things This is a very important detail to include in the equation, im2 , since it's commonly overlooked in the statistics. I cannot remember having read about any death of a Norwegian police officer as the result of a self-inflicted accident, but more of them are actually injured by shots fired by themselves and colleagues than by criminals! Only this year, a couple have shot themselves in the foot while pulling up a gun from - or inserting it in - their hip holster with the safety off!  , as of today 138 officers have died in 2016.. 64 of them were shot and killed in the line of duty. 12 were killed in vehicular assault, 1 was stabbed, 2 died due to 9/11 illness and 4 in vehicle pursuits. So no, most are not by accidents due to carelessness or stupidity. The rest of the deaths? They vary from heart attacks, automobile accidents, illness, to animal attacks. |

We need to take a look at the hard cold truth here.
We don't see a whole lot of dangerous and life threatening situations here now do we?
Stop making excuses for police. Make them change their culture. , I am respectfully asking you to create your own thread if you wish to criticize the Police. I created this one out of respect for them. I realize you do not agree and that is your choice. But please do not use this thread to do it in. I do not believe I am out of line in asking this. @progeny if I am then I will not ask again. |

You have the right to ask this question, @justbec. im2, all thread starters have certain privileges and should be allowed to indicate when they feel bulldozed in their own thread. Consider it as being a guest in another person's house where you follow the wishes of the host.  |

I should not have had to ask you since this is how you believe things should be. Since you believe this then you should never have engaged since I have the right to create my own thread and to inflict everyone with my opinion without opposition. You did this because you are being shown that what you believe is not so. Thee is no war or open season on police. That is a fact. And people like you who promote this dangerous lie which allows police to go around murdering people need to quit what you are doing. The police in this nation are the only group who have state permission to end lives upon their discretion. And they are murdering people while using excuses to justify these killings of how they were in danger for their lives so they had to fie 100 pus bullets into a vehicle in Cleveland for example.
You went off topic in the thread about Trump being under russian influence and bought up Obama care. Then you complained about things that were said to you then when you knew you were off base and wrong to enter my thread where I had the right to make it what I wanted it to be about. That's is just as much bulldozing as whatever you claim this is. And yet you think you have the right to do that because you were not asked not to? But you can complain about being bulldozed upon your discretion when that has not been the case?
I am not bashing the police. that's a lie. I am showing what police do. You are making that claim because I do not agree with your claim of how its open season on police.

im2, @justbec, dissenting opinions are allowed, but so is an opposing thread. What we don't allow is this type of communication on a public board. Hash it out in PM, block each other so you can't see or communicate with each other...or just ignore the other. THOSE are your options from here on in.

I respectfully disagree, im2, whenever we respond to a thread started by an individual, we actually ARE responding to that person. @justbec, I have also been saddened by the recent rash of police killings, ambushes, actually. I can understand that some people are really angry about the number of what they feel are unjustified police shootings/beatings and so forth and have started a "war" on police officers in general. There have been enough cases of brutality by police that I am also angered. I think cops can be bullies. But many of the cases of "so-called" brutality have been proven by evidence, including film that the officer was justified in the action. As others have said, there are bad cops, there are also bad teachers, bad doctors and so forth. But to shoot a police officer just sitting in his car, not harming anyone isn't brave, it's the act of a coward. The police departments do need to have training classes and attitude adjustment classes. By the same token, many police officers go into some of the most dangerous parts of cities one can imagine, with gangs and gang wars. I can imagine the adrenaline pumping and the fear. Yes, fear. |

Posters can direct it to the OP, other commenters or generally and leave it open. We prefer they debate the topic up for discussion. Not engage in interpersonal squabbling. |
