Deep Purple were a band of excellence and sheer genius no other band can match in my opinion. They broke the mould of music that only had different lyrics to actual compositions similar to classical writings of music. Ritchie Blackmore as genius as he was unfortunately pushed eccentricities to new bounds. I don't think I could have worked with him and can see the problems Ian Gillan had but their music shaped my teenage years with raw passion I'm thankful to have been a part of. I will always look up to a master that Blackmore was with respect and appreciation for his dedication to pushing the boundaries. How many other Purple fanatics are there out there??? Some of his great solos.

I have to give Slade and Noddy Holder in particular a shout here as I remember how my interest in playing the guitar first started. I was in the school bus sitting near the front saving a seat for my best mate as we drove down Denison St towards number 46. He was lucky the bus stopped right out front. As we were about to pull up "Take my bak ome" by Slade came on and I was all ears. I thought to myself I'm going to be a rock star when I grow up. Seriously. I was 12 then so I was serious about it. Noddy had without a doubt one of the most powerful voices for rock I'd ever heard and became another of my great influences. Back in 73 this clip here and some of you may have been lucky to be in the crowd here. I was just on the bus. animated-music-image-0350 smiley-rolleyes009 animated-smileys-music-015

mikromaniak, such a shame Noddy isn't there anymore. Last time I heard he was a DJ at a radio station. That magic voice started my rock star career as a 12 year old. thank-you-smiley-animated-Thank_you Noddy. Noddy still does appearances. www.ents24.com/uk/tour-dates/noddy-holder

Another one of my big influences is BAD COMPANY. mikromaniak , do you know these guys? They had the perfect blend of rock and ballad compositions I've come to know. Again, songs that don't follow the norm in music writing, they made their mark with melodic ballads that still had the strong overtones for retaining that hard rock feel of power and significance. When we started out as a schoolboy band we did many of their songs including, Can't Get Enough, Rock Steady, Deal with a Preacher, Movin on, Feel like Makin Love and Good Lovin Gone Bad. I was wanted to play the song titled Bad Company but we never got around to that one. These guys around 70 plus are still pumpin it out. Check this out for a memory and don't forget to "rock steady". heavyguitar smiley-rolleyes009 sfun_banana3

Once upon a time, a long time ago, ages actually a band called Golden Earring (Dutch band) recorded a brilliant song called Radar Love that has never lost it's appeal and never aged with time. I found this clip a while ago and the band members are now around 70 years old and better than ever. Watch the whole clip and wait for the best drum solo ever. Tix Mascot , mikromaniak, gator, what do you think of these guys. Still rocking even today after so long.

Still rocking even today after so long. I'm surprised. Haven't heard about them for many decades, so I thought they had bit the dust a long time ago. They had a few hits when I was young, but I'm impressed. Neil Young once said: "Old rockers never die - they just fade away and keep coming back forever!"

Tix Mascot, those Gator Boys are great. Never heard of them but I'll check them out now. The sound recording was excellent on that clip and I love the bass line. Really drives the song. Those guys are quite funny when they said we're going to make a movie where we look much cooler than we are. Good find Tix.
