Even if you have installed Norton, Symantec and other packages that promise to keep your computer safe and clean, you are still in risk of infecting it with virus and other harmful stuff, so if you haven't already done it, I recommend that you try Malwarebytes, a free program that scans for and removes malware, including rogue security software, adware and spyware. As an option, it also comes in a paid version, which additionally provides scheduled scans, real-time protection and a flash-memory scanner.
Since Malwarebytes scans in batch mode, rather than scanning all files opened, it reduces interference if another anti-malware software is also running on your computer.
It's easy to install and use. Better safe than sorrry.
