The down side to Big Brother is they are in there all week and you get to see very little of the interaction between the house guest. Then they edit what you do see. You can PAY to watch live feeds but there is no chance I would ever do it. This winter they had celebrity guest and one woman went off on a rant and they even shut the live feeds down so nobody could hear what she said. I have a friend that gets to watch for free and they say part of the rant. But just how many hours are you going to sit around and watch these people? No way would I sit and watch them...live is to short but I'll watch the shows and competitions.

Being active on a forum is good for keeping the mind sharp, but we - and the younger generations even more so - must find ways to get enough physical exercise as well.  |

My Fitbit helps me with that. It reminds me every hour to get up and get at least 250 steps but I usually get 1,000. Sitting and watching TV or playing games I get 0 steps.

The saddest thing about reality TV is that it may hit a nerve with gullible and easily impressionable individuals, who somehow identify with the rich and powerful families, like the Kardashians, to the extent that they find it very entertaining to watch these women travel from place to place and buy new houses just because they decide they need a bigger home movie theater. It’s also mindboggling how a significant purchase is virtually pocket change to the stars of these shows. They throw themed parties just because they can and rent yachts for the night because their son made the honor roll. But this life, which is a mere fantasy to the rest of us, also removes you from your own reality for the brief time that you watch it, which should actually set off an alarm if you get so invested in whatever is going on in the episodes that emotions get involved, where you feel bad for certain people and have no remorse for others, while taking sides in their arguments and having legitimate opinions on their decisions. If that happens, you have become addicted and need a serious reality check!

Although many people think that reality TV is spontaneous and 'live', this image is wrong.
All those shows are carefully scripted and choreographed. If they weren't, they would not be edited and censored, creating even more havoc and public outcry.

Survivor is usually one of the least scripted reality TV shows, but producers have used stand-ins to recreate competitions and get better footage.  |

Unfortunately, the influx of viewership has led to an increased push by producers to create drama where it may not already be. Oftentimes, they will script scenarios or plant items so that they can make the show more interesting.
But what is real and what is fake?
It's not easy - or even impossible - for the viewers to separate the wheat from the chaff.

The more I study this phenomena called 'reality TV', but is really a carefully orchestrated drama, I come to the conclusion that it's really about the money. Entertainment plays second fiddle.
