When I switched off the PC and went to bed on Thursday 15 November, I got a message that it would update first. This has happened with irregular intervals, so I didn't suspect anything wrong this time, either.
But when I tried to switch it on on Friday morning, it refused to start. Cthulhu didn't answer my call (because he had forgotten his cell phone in the car as he told me when he finally rang me back), so I disconncted the computer and brought it to Power downtown. They stipulated that it would take three work days to get it fixed.
But Tuesday came and went without hearing from them, so I had to check again. It turned out that there was a hiccup in the system that interrupted the startup procedures after having completed 41% each time.
Also, the two hard disks were worn and slow, so they suggested that we copied their content into a backup disk before reinstalling Windows 10 from scratch. That took more than a week.
Next step was to buy a new hard disk with enough storage space to satisfy the needs of an entire village! It wasn't in stock, so a few more days before the operation could resume.
Yesterday, I got it back, but I needed many hours to sort out everything and custonise it again. The only thing I lost were the email files and contact lists.
I tried to post something on Lys' iPad, but it was too inconvenient, so I gave up. I regard myself as a dyslexic when it comes to touch screens, so I just had to wait patiently.
Hopefully, this won't happen again for many years now...

I use a laptop and Windows 10 as well Tix Mascot. The updates keep coming and coming and coming. I was told it is because Win 10 was released as a work in progress...and we are the guinea pigs. I too am allergic to touch screens. I have a Samsung Tablet but I never use it. It came free with the Samsung phones we got when we had to get new phones. (Also of course touch screen. I miss my buttons) And now my husband murdered his car. It was identical to mine in every way but color and mine is in great shape. The new car...a Toyota Camry SE...is loaded with all kinds of touch screen technology. I hate all of it. I like simple. Everyone else thinks it is a great car. They should try figuring it all out. It is my car. If my husband is going to murder another car it is better he not murder the new car. At least I got it for cost. And I mean I.

There are electronics everywhere. A modern car mechanic is just as much an electronics engineer... Last week, I was riding with a co-worker in his new Tesla. The info screen on the dashboard is a foot wide and even taller, with all kinds of text, images and messages, so I hope that our old Ford Mondeo will pass the test in January without too many necessary repair costs, so we don't need to drive a computer with four wheels!
