During the early days of modern ski sport, the jumping discipline originated when some brave youngsters put a wide plank between the roof and ground on the upper side of a building in steep terrain, then started a competition. Among them were the infamous Trysil-Knut, whose real name was probably Knut Knutsen Nordby Skaret, from Linnes in Trysil, Norway. He lived around 1800 and is considered to be a skiing pioneer.  Also in Morgedal, Telemark, skiing daredevils developed both jumping and alpine disciplines. |
