In case you should wonder: The last survivor of the final slave ship to take captives from Africa to America, the Clotilda in 1859, was born in Africa in 1841 as Kossula and died in America in 1935 as Cudjo Lewis. After they were freed, Cudjo and his fellow former slaves worked together to build a new community: Africatown, now known as Plateau, in Mobile, Alabama. Thanks for this reminder of a shameful period in our history. Around the world, we still find slaves and people living under slavelike conditions, but the international aid organizations seem helpless.

Slavery in all forms is disgusting.
