"Software developers are writing code that affects the lives of millions of people and how businesses are run, but what do coders think about some of the ethical questions they face?" Most coders are honest and law-abiding people, but there have developed some grey areas that can compromise your integrity in various ways. The IT guys I worked with we kept so busy I don't think they would have time to cheat the company. They were all really good people to work with and I was in contact with them daily and sometimes hourly while working on a project. I was just one person out of thousands that worked with them closely.
Guess they could work something up at home and bring it in but they all had families and several years with the company. Would they risk losing their job, benefits and future pension when they reached retirement? I would trust them if they saw something they would report it. But hey you never know about people really.
