Lys has a Mac Book that sometimes asks to be updated. Yesterday, it wanted to install something called "Sierra". But it froze and cannot be unstuck. She called the Apple Store and was told to bring the unit to them for diagnosis and help. The help desk guy indicated that she would have to pay for that service, so we'll see what happens when we go there once she is feeling well enough to walk outside again.

Can you try pulling the battery for like 5 minutes then put it back. Not sure about mac books but that will sometimes fix a laptop

Fix 2. macOS 10.13 High Sierra fails to install/gets stuck or freezes while installing Here you have two options to fix the macOS 10.13 installation failure error:
Option 1. Install macOS update in Safe Mode to fix the macOS High Sierra 10.13 update stuck error
Disable or uninstall any Anti-virus software on your Mac. Ensure Mac computer has a proper and reliable internet connection. Install macOS Sierra in Safe Mode. Hold Power until your Mac shuts down > Turn your Mac on and hold the Shift key > Release Shift when the Apple logo appears > The Mac shall be booted into the Safe Mode. Then try to install macOS 10.13 update again.

We tried the info in your linked site, but the laptop didn't unfreeze, it just went into a repetitive mode for unfinished update.
Lys just called. She had brought it to the Apple Store and got a list of points to follow. If she doesn't succeed, they will charge her 65 dollars to fix it.

Good news: Lys followed the instructions from the Apple guys and what do you know - after half a day, the laptop works fine again, updated and ready for new assignments. She wants to take advantage of the recovery period from the last surgery to continue her work with the translation of a book from Portuguese to Norwegian and now, she's happy as a lark!

Once and a while I have a problem updating my phone because it drops the signal, just like it likes to drop calls. But it isn't the phone that is the problem. It's the location where we live and the proximity to the towers. This area is just in an odd spot and everyone here has the problem. A new tower location would fix everything.
So far I've never had a problem updating my Mac and I can never see myself going back to Windows. The last Windows I really liked was 7...till it started having problems.

A financial adviser that we visited on Friday put a colleague on speaker, but had to turn up the volume every 30 seconds, as it kept cutting, so many devices seem to have their little quirks.

Sidetrack: My father recently switched to a new generation of hearing aids, where he can tune in to radio, TV, telephones and Bluetooth - and adjust the volume. I jokingly accused him of having become half machine now!
