Well, in the first place only a minority of Americans voted for him.
Secondly I am anything BUT an admirer of Hillary Clinton and consider Trump marginally the lesser of two evils.
But it did not have to be that way. There were better candidates available to both parties particularly the Republicans - John Kasich and Ben Carson were streets ahead of anyone in terms of intelligence and capacity.
And Trump has broken quite a few of his promises already.
And of course it is NO virtue to persevere with bad policies which is what Trump is at least PRETENDING to do.
Do you remember what Trump said some years ago - that if he ever ran for the Presidency he would run for the Republicans because they were stupid?
But of course the Republican Party sold its soul long ago. McCain was the last chance it had to return to its traditional role as the party of Lincoln, Grant, Harrison, McKinley, Roosevelt, Taft, Hoover, Norris, Landon, Dewey, Eisenhower and Nixon before it was taken over by an unholy alliance between the Buckleyites, the Randists and the neo-liberals.
All three groups are of course profoundly at odds with the core values and traditions of the Republican Party and indeed the values of the Founding Fathers. Trump, the Tea Party and the Christian Coalition are all RINOS - interlopers who have taken over a once great party and turned it into a bunch of traitors and narcissists.
