We have all dealt with them at one time or another and in fact are dealing with them now. So here are a few thoughts on the subject.
Trolling is a form of harassment that can take over a discussion. It is the goal of a Troll to disrupt threads, harass posters and put the focus on themselves. Well meaning defenders can create chaos by responding to trolls. The best response is to ignore it. Negative emotions stirred up by trolls leak over into other discussions. Guests to the board and even long time members can become bitter after reading an angry interchange between a troll and his victims, and this can poison previously friendly interactions between long-time users. Leaving is not the answer, when members leave or stop posting they simply allow said Troll to win. Trolls are small minded people that usually create imaginary lives to make themselves feel worthwhile.

Yep.. and instead of worrying about Trolls we need to focus on adding some content here and get people talking again. Not just playing games.

Trolls have existed in folklore and fantasy literature for centuries, while online trolling has been around for as long as the Internet has existed. The earliest known usage of the term can be traced back to the 1990s on early online message boards. Back then, it was a way for users to confuse new members by repeatedly posting an inside joke. It’s since turned into a much more malicious activity, sometimes for their own amusement and occasionally with a more sinister agenda. Fortunately, I cannot remember having come across any trolling on this forum and the few other sites I frequent, so I guess I have been lucky with my preferred corner of Cyberspace. But from what I've read, the strange thing - almost a paradox - is that online trolls can be very nice people in real life. It's as if they put on a mask and a assume a different personality as soon as they log on to a debate site and start spreading their venom. AlexanderPavlov/Shutterstock.com
