How does a bird find a worm when the worm is in the ground?
Worms crawl up when the earth is still cool and wet with the morning dew in the morning, before the sun rises. This is also the time when the early birds (who are pretty hungry) go hunting.
When a bird stands on the ground near where the worm is crawling around underneath, believe it or not it can feel the vibrations with its feet. Additionally, the bird will cock its head and zero-in on the sound with their super-sensitive ears.
After the bird has located the worm through the vibrations and noises, it will plunge down, grab the worm, and dine on breakfast. Ever hear the phrase, “the early bird gets the worm?”
