Although Trump has signaled a more pro-Israel attitude than Obama, it would be extremely unwise for him - or any other leader for that matter - to support the reconstruction of a Jewish temple in Jerusalem before an inter-religious plan is agreed upon by all parties and faiths claiming ownership to the so-called "holy city".

Trump hinted that he would move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem as a symbolic act, but that would also provoke the Palestinians tremendously and probably destroy decades of goodwill in the already flimsy peace process.

That's right up his alley, destroying friendships. And I thought he was going to bring us together. The US seems to be more divided than it ever has. I'm sure he can do that with the rest of the world.

I understand how you don't want to politicize it, but this is actually Palestinian territory, and the whole situation is plain wrong. Israel was created by Britain and is now little more than an American colony. I can't help commenting on this, because I work in the field of Human Rights. |

We must also keep in mind that in the times of Herod, when the Temple was last restored, there were no clear division between religion and politics. Herod was maneuvering along a thin line to satisfy both his Roman overlords, his Jewish leaders and his subjects of various backgrounds, so it's difficult to see where politics stopped and religion started - and vice versa.
Today, the Temple Mound is a sacred place for three religions; and a disputed territory by Israeli and Palestine, so the boundaries are still blurred, both literally and figuratively.
