Excellent pictures and most I've never see before. I bought a book that told the story of the march on Washington and it was loaded with pictures. The book had all the speeches in it and reaction of people like Kennedy who talk to him and several others afterwards. I gave it to my niece once I read it. It all happened long before her time but I'm sure she will enjoy it like I did.

I just saw on the Norwegian news that Trump recently met King's son Martin Luther III, so hopefully, that was not only a show for the gallery. After the meeting, King said to the press that the dialogue with Trump had been constructive and that Trump has promised to consider King's suggestions to improve the voting system.

Yep, and that would mean that pictures of Trump taken with MLK III are not part of this. So a claim of how Trump was not only putting on a show for the gallery was not part of the topic section either. Therefore I do have the right to my opinion on this matter of Trump and his picture with MLK III.
Go right ahead then. What it has to do with history and the subject is beyond me but hey, knock yourself out.

Quite frankly Justbec, I think this thread is a joke given that your perception of Dr. King is a distortion of what King stood for. But this is a free country. And I consider that a personal insult. That's not done on this forum, which you are well aware of. I have never stated my opinion or thoughts on the man so how do you know my perception of him? I am done responding.

You can call it what you want, but I am tired of white conservatives using Dr. King. That is a personal insult to me. You know what? I will respond one more time. I created a thread on pictures not often seen of Martin Luther King. End of story. So just how, and I am going to assume that I am that white conservative even though you know nothing about me or my background, did I or anyone in this thread 'use' Dr. King? Show me, in this thread where anyone did that or how you were insulted.

I had a terrible history teacher so ended up hating history. Now it's one of my favorite subjects. I'm thinking my niece wants to be a history teacher. Hope she does because she will make it interesting for the kids. She's been to several of the presidential libraries. If you ever get to DC or maybe you have, it's a history lesson every where you go. I think that's what helped spark my interest now. We have been there twice and would like to go again. Some areas change what they display so you can go back and there will be new things to see. Our second trip was the best because we had a plan of where we would go most days. Again thanks for the pictures.

Yes Joey, I have been to DC twice. It is an amazing place. I got to see the museums, the Lincoln memorial and the Vietnam wall as well as the other monuments there. Went by the White House but at a distance. We did get to walk through the Christmas tree thing where they had a tree from every country. It was a lot of fun. I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures, history fascinates me.

I don't understand where the political discourse came from in this thread that was clearly about history and sharing what is a fascinating collection of pictures of MLK. Joey, I agree on your take about Washington, DC. I have two brothers who live in Maryland, one just outside DC. They both went to college down there, so we've been to the city many times over the last 30 years or so and it never ceases to fascinate me. A beautiful city and as you said, steeped in history. I for, one, enjoyed these pictures and appreciate your sharing them, @justbec, thanks.
