Yesterday, I experienced a partial meltdown on all my three browsers. Edge refused to open and I have been unable to reload it. Explorer started to override my settings. Chrome suddenly opened various websites including soundtracks without having been told to do so. None of the latter two let themselves be deleted. Imagine my frustration... Enter Vivaldi! I found this browser through a search for recommended ones and one site had it on their top ten list, with a small note that it could be difficult to use because of advanced and detailed settings, so I postponed it for a while until the curiosity got the better of me. And what do you know? After a brief hour of adjusting all the settings, I am now a very happy camper! Vivaldi is the fastest browser I have ever used and once you get used to it, it's actuelly very effective. Lets keep our fingers crossed that it will stay that way!

A good sign, perhaps? Hopefully, Vivaldi will serve me faithfully throughout more than four seasons...

Are you still using this browser, geriatrix? I've been having browser problems for awhile too. I don't like Edge and my preference is IE, but IE was out and out broken with the latest Windows 10 push by Microsoft. So I am on Firefox. I'm getting used to it now, I really don't like changing browsers, it makes me grumpy. Were you able to import your Favorites/Bookmarks into Vivaldi. (I can't even type that without hearing music. )

Are you still using this browser, Heretix? No. I was trying to install a live webcam chat function here some weeks ago, without success, I may add, but in the process, I must have visited an infected site, so I had to reset the computer to a time before I installed Vivaldi. And what do you know? Chrome started to behave properly again! Were you able to import your Favorites/Bookmarks into Vivaldi. Again no. At least, I didn't find any way to do it, so I had to start from scratch. But once i got used to it, Vivaldi was excellent. During my worst problems, I called my absent co-admin Cthulhu, who recommended K-Meleon, but I don't like it, since the place to click on open and close tabs is in the menu bar rather then on the tag line, which is not very practical to me. Chrome automatically stores my 8 most used web addresses. The rest come as a suggestion as soon as I start typing them in the browser window and that's all I really need.

Oh my goodness, I have hundreds of Favorites. I was reading the Windows 10 thread in the computer section and saw where someone else is in the same boat I am with very many special links to things I need. Mine got all messed up and I can't get them organized in IE, (I have duplicates) and FF has them rather funky, but they are there. I don't use any extra toolbars, so if I do try IE again I won't miss anything from FF. I'm not big on addons.
I'm glad we had this conversation. I need to set a restore point. I tried to go back the other day and was informed there wasn't a "before." Must have happened with the last W10 push.

The system can either suggest fixed restore points for you or give you the opportunity to set one freely. I have had Windows 10 for about a year and it works well.

I'm going to do it manually, geriatrix. I like to run my clean up programs first and get rid of malware, broken bits and so forth and do a clean backup point. I've had W10 off and on since it came out, but when it first came out it was junk and broke my computers. I'm a gamer, and it broke my games, deleted necessary exe files and so forth. So I got rid of it. A few months later, it got onto my 8.1 computer and broke stuff again. That time I did a better job of blocking it with the GWX program. But as it got to be close to the end of the option to get the free version, I went ahead and got the upgrade. I had prepared, saved all my stuff, etc., and not a thing happened when I got the upgrade, nothing broke! Nothing got deleted either. Amazing! The first thing I did was install Classic Shell, I had used that with W8.1. I didn't need to turn off a lot of stuff, I did that during the upgrade when I chose a custom install instead of the "recommended" settings. I've turned off the touch screen except for the swipe from the right, also turned off the touchpad, and have my computer open to my desktop with non of that apps stuff showing, just my personal background. All is good.

How many browsers are there? And who named one after an Italian composer?

Here are a few
Mosaic, April 22, 1993 Netscape Navigator and Netscape Communicator, October 13, 1994 Internet Explorer, August 16, 1995 Opera, 1996, see History of the Opera web browser Mozilla Navigator, June 5, 2002[19] Safari, January 7, 2003 Mozilla Firefox, November 9, 2004 Google Chrome, September 2, 2008 Microsoft Edge, July 29, 2015
FireFox - My computer guy told me to never use this one because it wasn't as secure as say Google and all I've ever had with Yahoo caused spam and problems for me.
But note Vivaldi isn't even on this list so there are a lot more I'm sure.
I use Safari
