@justbec, Wow would you look at Archies PAWS, oh he is going to be a big boy. geriatrix, Sammy was pretty sharp and was attentive when treats were close by. It's my favorite picture of her (the name fools everyone) and it's the first thing I see when I turn my phone on. Like people you never forget Sammy falls in the same category, she was family. @justbec, She was pretty active but just weighed 10 pounds. Emory only weighs 5 pounds and is also a bundle of energy but not into going for walks yet. Soon I hope that changes. Years ago there was a TV show called My Sister Sam. Samantha "Sam" Russell (Pam Dawber) is where I came up with the name. Sammy's name was actually Princess Samantha and we called her Sam or Sammy. But now the challenge is having Emory (another she) under the roof. A bundle of joy for sure. After our errands today she got her bath. She is not fond of water like Archie. But oddly when it's time to go outside and it's raining she has no problem and walks right out into the rain. Just the opposite of Sammy who hated rain. It's crazy being a dog owner. All pets are different. I just wanted to make post 1000 memorable.

How cute! She looks a little skeptical and slightly frightened, though...

Have you measured how much she eats and drinks (roughly) per meal/day right now?

We have decided how much she eats. Awe gave her a whole bag think she would try and eat it all. So we give her a little wet and a lot more dry. She loves them both. What we don't want her to do is get fat. Humans do it to them selves and get out of shape so we decided we aren't going to do that to her. In the past I've seen new puppy out walking with their owners and I use to think I need to keep Sammy that size or close too. Couple months go by and the dogs are looking a little round. Few more months go by and they are butterballs that can hardly walk. So now with Emory we aren't going to let that happen. We feed her twice a day about the same amount. And once and a while Ricco will drop a tiny carrot cube down to her. Those are fine for her to eat we just don'y like her hanging around his cage all the time. We got her and she was tiny 2.4 pounds. Now she is older and weighs 5 pounds. She should stay in the 5 or 6 pound range now. She's a lot smaller than Sammy was.

First we had our dog, Niki a Malamute, along the way a couple Zebra finches showed up. Then a few tropical fish entered the scene. We lost Freddy and Frieda the finches and later lost Niki. The tropical fish come and go so I switched to Piranha. They live a whole lot longer...the gold fish I feed them didn't. Then a Conure parrot entered the house followed shortly after by another. They became fast friends and only needed me to feed and water them. So Ricco our Amazon parrot was added to the household. Eventually the Piranha all died and so did the Conures, but they lasted 27 years. We have had Ricco for 30 years. Somewhere along the line we adapted a Hermit Crab that didn't stay long. After our first dog it was really hard on both of us and we said we would never have a dog again. It took 18 years for us to change our mind. So we got a Chihuahua we called Sammy. Sammy was only here for 11 years and again it broke our hearts. But she was here long enough to sho us how much love they give back. So, enter Emory or baby Chihuahua. So as I was writing this out I realized we have never not had a pet. Niki entered the house before we were married 12 hours and Ricco my out live us. So 47 year with of pets and still counting. And this isn't even counting the pets we had as kids!

Truly amazing, Joey. I can only boast of three cats, whereof I remember the name of the last one - Moses, who stayed with us for three years - and Dolly the lamb for one summer. The dog Aurea in Italy for two years and her five cubs for a couple of weeks before we had to let them go due to the apartment building's regulation. The chairman looked through the fingers with Aurea, but the neighbours started to complain when she had her litter and we had to leave them at an uncle's property, where they soon disappeared. When I was around 10, I picked up a young crow that had fallen out of its nest, but my mother refused to let me keep it, so I climed up the tree and brought it home where it belonged. Then, there were a couple of nameless dwarf turtles in Brazil, but I don't remember for how long they were a part of our household.

We both feel blessed by the animals in our lives. No cats but we have a neighborhood cat named Marley. I watched Marley play with and release chipmunks in the past and he seemed to like Sammy. Sammy was very interested in him. We would see him on our walks. A couple time I caught Marley sitting behind my grill and watching the birds at the feeder. That's as close as we have come to owning a cat...Or do I have that backwards and they actually own us. That sounds closer to the truth.
