Pro: Cheap real estate, cost of living and drinks. Pleasant and expat-friendly culture. Great food. Nice beaches. Comfortable retirement. Flip-flops and sandals during all seasons. Great possibilities for boating, fishing, diving and surfing. Lots of parties and festivals — you will meet many cool people and have a busy social life. Tax benefits. Many public holidays. Many people speak English. Fruit and vegetables are harvested all year. Easy to relax ad feel good.
Con: Too hot weather. Constant sweating. Many mosquitos and other bugs. You never feel really clean. Normally not as good service sector and as many health care benefits as you are used to. Bad road standards ansd traffic culture. Frequent construction projects. Political instability. Gap between rich and poor people. You cannot vote unless you become a citizen. Packs of stray dogs may pose a risk. Bad online and GPS connections. Long waiting lines in supermarket and public services. Bad education system.

I've lived in various parts of the world. In Lebanon and Somalia, I liked the climate, but unfortunately, those countries were destroyed by war. I don't know if southern Italy qualifies as "tropical", but I liked living there, althogh I didn't know the language in the beginning.

Having lived in one, I can say, there's good and bad aspects to it. I don't handle the extreme heat too well. But I do like all the exotics fruits and not having to put up with the snow.

I don't think I could deal with the big poisonous bugs. Saw a thing on Australia couple of years ago where even the trees are poison ...Yikes

I don't know about Australia, but in Lebanon and Somalia, we had to be on constant alert for venomous snakes and scorpions.

Not all tropical countries are infested with war and other conflicts. I talked to a guy from Dominica (actually the son of a former prime minister). He said that there are no dangerous creatures on his island ant it's safe to go everywhere.
