All criminals could have their sentence reduced by a third if they plead guilty at the earliest opportunity, under new plans being drawn up by the Sentencing Council
Having a reduction of a third of a custodial sentence is not new. The practice has existed for a long long time. The difference here is that it's convicted prisoners that are now being offered the reduction, paving way for early releases in many cases.
And yet the Home Office said recently that there was no need to cut the prison population in the next five years;
So I wondered, why then is this custom being extended to those already convicted and ask the question, should they?
