Yes, I agree, but to confiscate jewelry is maybe going too far.

Yes, that, too. Let's see what happens. A Danish voter told the press that he doubts whether the prime minister will be reelected because of this issue. The UN is also worried, as it seems to violate human rights.

I was there in 1983 with two friends. Lovely scenery. But nowadays, the glaciers retire, so you see less of them from down in the valleys.

After this little digression, I'm back on track with a sad case that the Norwegian refugee authorities must be embarrassed to have on its resume. On 8 January, asylum seeker Yemane Teferi from Eritrea died after having spent 23 years at a migrant centre in Bømlo, beacuse the Eritrean government couldn't guarantee for his safety if he was returned. He had wanted to be buried in Norway, but the authorities made a deal with his distant cousin about returning his remains to Eritrea. I think that the way this poor gentleman was treated leaves a shameful spot on Norway's track record towards the immigrants.

That is awful. I haven't heard of some one being detained for that long. May he R.I.P.

It's a result of international treaties. Some people cannot be returned, but they still don't fill the criteria for citizenship in the countries where they seek asylum, so they end up in a vacuum.

That is sad indeed. And then we are hearing of all the missing children from the refugee camps and noon seems to know where they have disappeared to.

Yes, Deyana, that's another important aspect about this unfortunate issue. Many children travel alone and vanish along the way. Some end up in criminal organisations, while others are never heard from again. Right now, the Norwegian government is trying to tighten the laws for immigrants' rights, but the majority in our parliament is against it, so they would need to renegotiate the deal. Meanwhile, people keep arriving at a rate of around 80 per day, which is nowhere near the number that we are able to handle in a sensible way.
