Norway: Online Campaign Launched to Give Mountain to Finland in 2017 Though part of the Halti mountain is already located in Finland, its highest peak is in Norway. The campaign proposes altering the border as a gift for Finland's 100th anniversary of independence. HereI liked this part. "Not only will this be a great gift, but how many countries can brag about having given a mountain as a gift?

I haven't heard about this, so it must have made the news while I was out of the country.
Thanks for sharing, Toetapping!

Yes, it's a very nice gesture. Norway has enough mountains already, so what is one more peak or 100 square meters of territory? It's not like when Queen Victoria and her cousin Emperor Wilhelm set down with a ruler and decided to draw new boundery lines on the Africa map, so that Kilimanjaro suddenly belonged to German East Africa (present Tanzania) instead of Kenya. If the Finns are happy with a patch of unproductive wasteland, I'd say let them have it...

If the Finns are happy with a patch of unproductive wasteland, I'd say let them have it... I live between two large mountain ranges, I'm wondering if any country would like to perhaps barter for a mountain or two?

Many Norwegians would gladly trade some of their mountain peaks for more sunshine. Where Lys and I used to live on the West Coast, the sun is gone from early November to late January.

Thanks in advance, Toetapping! The benefits and disadvantages of topographical conditions sure aren't evenly distributed around the world!

The place with most sunshine on earth is Yuma, Arizona, which can boast of 4015 hours a year or 11 hours a day on average.
At the other end of the scale, Iceland has less than 1200 hours a year...

Sunny Iceland would be no good for me. If we have two days of grey skies I am quite sad. I am one of those people I have to have blue skies.

I have learned to appreciate whatever good weather nature brings us, while not becoming affected by clouds, rain or snow. I suffer from a latent depression and I cannot afford to let climatic conditions drag me down, so I take what comes with equal calm, even if I have to run through a foot of snow in minus 20 degrees C. Sorry for derailing the thread. This has absolutely nothing to do with a mountain changing country.
