Our federal election is on Monday. We have several parties at that level. But these are the major ones.
Conservatives - now in office, have been for two terms already. Steven Harper is our current PM tend to be for fiscal responsibility and big business
Liberals Of interest, is that the party leader is Justin Trudeau who's father was Pierre Elliott Trudeau, a past PM of Canada. Justin was actually born when his parents lived in the capital house tend to be for human rights and social justice Pierre Trudeau is best known for bring home the BNA Act, the Canadian Constitution. Justin has quite a legacy.
New Democrats - Thomas Mulcair tend to be for unions and workers' rights and safety
Green - Elizabeth May tend to be for environ causes and social justice
Yes there are other parties but these get the most votes.

I don't mind saying For several years I've been voting GREEN. I used to vote NDP but they act and sound a lot like the other two big wigs and it's not a good thing. I'm not tossing my vote away by telling them the environ is important to me and they need to get on signing int'l accords. Now would be good.

Well some people have always known he and his new version of Conservatives are bigots. But recently he's kind of been proving it again. Just before the election too. That was pretty dumb. Maybe Cdns finally got it though. Plus he and G W Bush were besties. Not exactly the kind of endorsement I'd want in a PM Apparently others agreed Plus the economy has deteriorated. I know that's an around the world issue, but yeah they want to give a new guy a try I guess.

I heard on the Norwegian news that Justin Trudeau is the winner. Like you wrote above, he has quite a legacy to live up to. Hopefully, he will fulfill his voters' expectations.

TBH he won't have much more opportunity than anyone in that office does. Between the party guidelines, backers, advisors and party politics, he's barely going to get a whisper in. But at least the liberals are known for social justice, unlike the new Conservative amalgam with the reform party. The reformers are the racists and that's where Harper came from.

I just heard on the news: Already on his first day in office, Mr Trudeau is pulling out all Canadian fighter planes from Syria with immediate effect and calls for a new course in his country's foreign politics!

IDK why but frankly we are supposed to be a peacekeeper nation, not a fighter one. Since Pearson. I can't imagine there is any other motive beyond that. We are also in debt and can't afford military actions right now. I'll be curious to see if his reasons are in those lines. I'm surprised he can do anything though as he's not sworn into office yet

I guess he wants to mark a distance from his predecessor and show that he is turning things in a different direction.
