This year, the Internet hit another landmark, clocking in at 5.1 billion users and 64.4% of the world population. In 1995, only 1% of the world had a connection. Fast forward nearly 30 years ahead, this number has grown exponentially, with the first billion users reached in 2005, the second billion in 2010 and third billion in 2015. The Internet user growth rate has steadily inclined since the early 1990s, this past year there was a 2% year-over-year growth rate. And while the rate of users is slowing down, this means that two-thirds of the world's population should be online by the end of 2023.

And soon the numbers will go up again. But I do wonder where the numbers come from since I use the Internet on my computer, 2 different phones, a laptop and an iPad.

I guess that the same IP address counts as one user regardless of how many devices you attach to it.
