Do you know if it differs much from modern equivalents? Don't think it's much different. The light organ in the abdomen is similar to ones seen in modern fireflies.Amazing how some traits remain unaltered for so long.

Tix Mascot , well done for correctly guessing the answer to this week's quiz question. You were asked: True or False? The brain of Stegosaurus wasn't much bigger than a walnut.Answer: False. One of the most iconic dinosaurs of the Late Jurassic, Stegosaurus lived in what is now Portugal and the western United States between 155 and 145 million years ago. Despite having a body the size of a bus, its brain wasn't much bigger than that of a dog, weighing only 80 grams.Today's dino:Name: Heptasteornis Pronunciation: Hep-tass-tee-or-nisMeaning of name: "Seven city bird"Species: H. andrewsiSize: Uncertain due to a lack of fossils.Family: AlvarezsauridaeDiet: UncertainFirst fossils found: Known only from two partial tibiotarsi (the large bones between the femur and the tarsometatarsus in the legs of birds) discovered by Hungarian palaeontologist, Franz Nopcsa, in the Sânpetru Formation of the Haţeg Basin in Transylvania, central Romania. Named by English ornithologist, Colin J. O. Harrison, and British palaeontologist, Cyril A. Walker, in 1975. Was originally thought to be a giant owl.Lived: 67 to 66 million years ago during the Maastrichtian stage of the Late Cretaceous in what is now central Romania.

It would be impossible to pull off a hoax of that magnitude, since the evidence is literally popping up everywhere. And I don't understand why someone would want to deny the existence of dinosaurs.

The name of today's entry is a reference to the fact, long lamented by palaeontologists, that many toy pterosaurs combine teeth with a Pteranodon-like head crest, while no such creature was known to exist - however, this pterosaur has that exact combination of features.Name: LudodactylusPronunciation: Loo-doe-dak-ty-lusMeaning of name: "Play finger" or "Toy finger"Species: L. sibbickiWingspan: Uncertain due to a lack of fossils, but is estimated to have measured around 4 metres.Family: Anhanguerinae (a subfamily of Anhangueridae)Diet: PiscivoreFirst fossils found: Known only from an almost complete skull discovered in the Crato Formation of northeastern Brazil. Named by M. Buchy, D. Martill and Eberhard Frey in 2003.Lived: 122 to 112 million years ago from the Barremian stage through to the Albian stage of the Early Cretaceous in what is now northeastern Brazil.
