Time to reveal the answer to this week's quiz question. You were asked: In what year were the first Daspletosaurus fossils discovered? 1924, 1963, 1957, 1921, 1988 or 1937?
Answer: 1921. One of T-Rex's smaller cousins, Daspletosaurus lived in what is now western Canada and the western United States during the Campanian stage of the Late Cretaceous (78 to 74.4 million years ago). The first Daspletosaurus fossils were discovered by American-Canadian palaeontologist, Charles Mortram Sternberg, in the Horseshoe Canyon Formation of Alberta, western Canada, in 1921.
