Tix Mascot , LadyPorthos , well done for correctly guessing the answer to this week's quiz question. You were asked: True or False? You would have been able to hear T-Rex's footsteps.Answer: False. As a predator, T-Rex would have had specific adaptations that allowed it to sneak up on its prey undetected. The walking surfaces on its feet had thick, fleshy pads which not only supported its weight but also muffled the sound of its footsteps. Elephants have similar padding on their feet and, unless they're trying to be noticed, you can't really hear them when they walk.Today's dino:Name: RichardoestesiaPronunciation: Rich-are-does-tess-tee-ahMeaning of name: Named after palaeoherpetologist, Richard Estes, in honour of his important work on small vertebrates and theropod teeth of the Late Cretaceous.Species: R. gilmorei, R. isosceles, R. asiaticaSize: Uncertain due to a lack of fossils.Family: UncertainDiet: CarnivoreFirst fossils found: R. gilmorei known only from a pair of lower jaws discovered in the Dinosaur Park Formation of western Canada and named by P. J. Currie, K. J. Rigby and R. E. Sloan in 1990. R. isosceles known only from a single tooth discovered in the Aguja Formation of Texas and named by J. T. Sankey in 2001. R. asiatica known only from teeth discovered in the Bissekty Formation of Uzbekistan. Originally named Asiamericana by L. A. Nessov in 1995, before being renamed as a species of Richardoestesia by Alexander Averianov and Hans-Dieter Sues in 2013.Lived: Depending on species, lived between 125 and 66 million years ago from the Barremian stage of the Early Cretaceous through to the Maastrichtian stage of the Late Cretaceous in what is now Uzbekistan, western Canada and the south-central United States, making it one of the longest lasting dinosaur genera.Tooth of R. gilmorei with close up of serrations.

More new friends! Say hello to 'Long-Neck', 'Lizzie' and 'Jaffa'. Purchasing these at Big W was a bit chaotic. There was no price tag on the shelf and when I went to pay for them, they wouldn't scan. Someone had to be sent to find how much they cost. The result ended up being nearly $40 (Lizzie and Jaffa came as a twin pack), but I was able to use the last $20 of my rewards money to bring the price down to $14.20, only to find the same toy line being sold in K-Mart of $10 each. Thankfully, K-Mart didn't have these particular figures in stock.

A little confused facial expression there, maybe?
Edit: This comment is for the previous historical entry, not TG's latest purchases. LOL
