Tix Mascot , LadyPorthos , well done for correctly guessing the answer to this week's quiz question. You were asked: True or False? The first dinosaurs appeared around 233 million years ago.
Answer: True. The first dinosaurs were small, bipedal carnivores, and appeared around 233 million years ago during the Carnian stage of the Late Triassic in what is now Brazil, Argentina and southern Africa. Herrerasaurus, Eoraptor and Sanjuansaurus are among the earliest dinosaurs.Today's dino: Name: AngolatitanPronunciation: An-go-lah-tie-tanMeaning of name: "Angolian giant"Species: A. adamastorSize: Uncertain due to a lack of fossils.Family: Uncertain. Likely Titanosaurid.Diet: HerbivoreFirst fossils found: Known only from a partial right forelimb discovered by Portuguese palaeontologist, Octávio Mateus, in Angola, southern Africa, in 2006. Named by Mr. Mateus, L. L. Jacobs, A. S. Schulp, M. J. Polcyn, T. S. Tavares, A. B. Neto, M. L. Morais and M. T. Antunes in 2011. Angolatitan is the first non-avian dinosaur to be discovered in Angola.Lived: 89.8 to 86.3 million years ago during the Coniacian stage of the Late Cretaceous in what is now southern Africa.New quiz question: Eggs or live birth? How did marine reptiles such as Ichthyosaurs, Mosasaurs and Plesiosaurs reproduce?

New quiz question: Eggs or live birth? How did marine reptiles such as Ichthyosaurs, Mosasaurs and Plesiosaurs reproduce? Some present marine animals go on land and lay eggs, so I gamble on the possibility that the species you mention did that as well.

I wonder if one can really reconstruct an entire animal from a few bone fragments or if the initial suggestions change as more fossil parts are being discovered.

My guess is they compare the size of the led compared to other bone and can guess the weight and size. But it's a stretch to draw or guess at the whole animal.
