The ability to mentally visualise things and events has played a crucial role in the evolution of human cognition and is something that seems to influence thinking in a wide range of everyday situations. For instance, we "see" images in our minds when we recall past events, when we plan for future events and when we read an exciting novel. Due to the inherently private nature of mental imagery it has been very difficult to investigate this phenomenon. However, with present day eye-tracking techniques a novel way to investigate our mind has emerged. Ask a friend to imagine her home and then ask her how many windows there are. If you look at her eyes while she is performing this task, you will probably see them moving as she is mentally "counting" windows. Thus, eye movements can be used as a direct behavioral correlate of humans' internal shifts of attention when visualising objects and scenes. Does this technique have a functional role in memory retrieval? Are there individual differences and, if so, how are these related to attention, memory and visuospatial capabilities?

Yes, I watched a programme on TV last year about two test people. One actually exercised, while the other only visualised the movements of arms and legs. Both strengthened their muscle tissue and became fitter during the project.

Yes and no. I don't believe that everybody visualising being a millionaire actually becomes one, to put it that way. But our body (including the mind) is a strange instrument that may bring us some very unexpected results.

IMO, visualization is akin to the placebo effect. You may notice a different, but it's hard to explain the underlying factors in a rational way.

I've heard charlatans claim that if you keep visualizing that you will become a millionaire, it will really happen. Well, I believe that if I ever become one, it will happen regardless of whether I spend half my time imagining it.

I started getting massages lately. Later I can sit here, think about it and almost feel their hands and arms on my back and it actually relaxes my back again. I think about it at least once a day and close my eyes while doing it. Works for me.

I'll spring for the 100 bucks and an actual massage.
The only way to do something is to do it. I can imagine all day about my next legal case or fencing match. The way I get either done is through preparation and practice.

Luckily I found someone lately that can get my back really relaxed and also my calves as they get tight at times. But really for me it's may back that helps me the most. Would love to go daily but that would be a bit steep and time consuming. One place here gives a discount if you come in monthly. They also saiid regular monthly people don't need to tip. I like to tip when they do a great job. I remember the first time I went to where I go now. They said are you relaxed...lol. I felt relaxed. Years ago we went to a gal the worked for the Chicago Bulls. Was in a bad car wreck and had to leave. It's been a while but she was excellent too.
But I an mentally relax my upper back when I close my eyes and think about it. Really it works.
