www.nytimes.com/2018/01/19/us/politics/government-shutdown.htmlSenate Sets a Vote for 10 p.m.; Trump and Schumer End Private Talks With ‘Progress,’ but No Deal The Senate has scheduled a vote for 10 p.m. on moving forward with a short-term spending bill that would avert a government shutdown. • Senate Democrats, who appear ready to block approval of the bill the House passed on Thursday, are meeting to discuss their options. • Earlier in the afternoon, Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the Democratic leader, came away from a meeting with President Trump without a deal, but said some progress had been made. • The government will shut down at 12:01 a.m. Saturday if lawmakers fail to reach an agreement. "A vote is set, but the outcome is unclear. Senator Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader, set a 10 p.m. vote on a motion to cut off debate and move forward with a vote on a measure that would keep the government open, but Democrats appeared prepared to filibuster the bill. The measure, passed Thursday by the House, would fund the government through February 16 and also includes a long-term, six-year extension of the popular Children’s Health Insurance Program, a provision intended to secure the votes of Democrats. “He said there were no agreements with Senator Schumer, and the president told him to go back and talk to Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell and work it out,” Mr. Cornyn told reporters. It was unclear when — or if — the Senate would vote on the measure passed Thursday night by the House to fund the federal government until Feb. 16.".

www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/1/19/16907138/government-shutdown-2018The real victims of government shutdowns are poor kids, military vets, and low-paid workers Member of Congress will be fine. "The odds of a government shutdown are increasingly likely. As Republicans and Democrats find themselves at an impasse on immigration, the hope of a deal by midnight Friday to fund the government is fading fast. A shutdown won’t really affect the politicians responsible for it — members of Congress, after all, keep getting paid when the government shuts down. But what the 2013 government shutdown showed us is that some Americans really do suffer — specifically poor kids in the Head Start program; military families; and janitors, security guards and other low-wage federal contractors. It's hard to grasp how many programs and services across the country rely on funding from the annual spending bill that Congress passes. But in October 2013, more than 850,000 federal workers were furloughed for the 16-day shutdown, affecting services for all Americans in all 50 states. Only “essential” government employees were allowed to work: anyone whose job is a matter of life and death or an urgent public safety matter. There’s no evidence anyone died as a result of the 2013 shutdown, though as Tom Frieden, the former head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told Vox, “In practice it’s certainly possible. We didn’t have our systems fully up and running to assess that.” But we do know it hurt many Americans who depend on services funded by the appropriations bill. Here are three groups of Americans who lost, and are likely to lose again if the government shuts down on Friday." Low-income kids in Head Start, Military families and veterans and Low-wage federal contractors are three groups of Americans who lost before and are likely to lose again if the govt shuts down.

Disgusting.. Democrats just blocked another vote because DACA wasn't tacked onto it. So what does that tell you? It tells me that Democrats care more about illegal Immigrants than they do our own Military. Our Military that will not get paid while the Congress sips champagne and eats caviar.

Or...a combination of the WH and Congress will be responsible if the govt shut downs. This is not either, or. Each branch holds responsibility if this comes to pass. How much is yet too be determined. That Congress sipping champagne and eating caviar is over 50% Republican...both Senate and the House. The WH is Republican. Not a great visual.

www.politico.com/story/2018/01/19/poll-government-shutdown-blame-349401Poll: More Americans will blame shutdown on Trump, GOP than on Dems Forty-eight percent of those surveyed said they'll blame the president and the GOP if a shutdown could not be averted. "A plurality of Americans say President Donald Trump and the Republican Party will be responsible for a government showdown, according to a new ABC News/Washington Post poll released Friday. Forty-eight percent of those surveyed said they'll blame the president and the GOP if a shutdown could not be averted by the deadline midnight Friday, while only 28 percent said they'll fault the Democrats. Eighteen percent of voters said they'll blame the White House, Republicans and Democrats equally. Among independents, the split margin was nearly identical, with 46 laying blame on Trump and the GOP and 25 percent on the Democrats. The results among Democrats and Republicans were predictably split along partisan lines, with 78 percent of Democrats placing blame on the West Wing and GOP leadership and 66 percent of Republicans faulting congressional Democrats.". Forty-eight percent of those surveyed said they'll blame the president and the GOP if a shutdown could not be averted. So 48% of those surveyed are idiots.. it's not rocket science to see who is blocking the vote.

So if your family is missing a paycheck next week, here's who you can thank.
Senate Democrats appeared to have blocked a spending bill on Friday night that would have prevented a government shutdown. The procedural motion to advance the bill needs 60 votes to pass.

How about I do not agree with those 48 % because...fill in the blank....instead?

You can agree or not agree that is your choice.. As for it being 'arrogant', maybe it is however I have seen you call Trump an idiot, a racist, and worse.. So 'arrogant' can work both ways. Simple fact is the Democrats shut the Government down because of DACA and no other reason. They would rather help Illegal immigrants than they would legal American citizens. The Military families that struggle from paycheck to paycheck now get to struggle even more. My friend is a Park Ranger in New York.. she is now out of work. She won't get 'back' pay because she was told not to come to work until this is solved. So she gets to sit home and create ways to pay bills. You better believe if Congress didn't get a paycheck they would have voted 100% to pass the bill.

Amen, @justbec, and frankly...
That's hardly surprising. Most people blame the President and the GOP for just about everything, but the fact is that the Democrats are no better. And these Government shut downs are hardly a new idea...they happened under Obama too. It's got to do with Congress, not who's sitting in the WH. And as was said in the previous post, Congress is taken care of so they don't give a damn how long things are at a standstill, but there are plenty of Government employees, as well as the Military, who will really suffer while they have their annual pissing match.

Wow of all liberals there is only one with brains? But 5 voted for it! Then it looks like 4 conservatives must not have brains either because they thought for themselves. But we know there are really more. I call them the trumpbots that follow the president blindly.
