Hatch of Utah, the longest-serving Senate Republican, announced on Tuesday he will retire at the end of the year, rebuffing the pleas of President Trump to seek an eighth term and paving the way for Mitt Romney, a critic of Mr. Trump’s, to run for the seat. Mr. Hatch made his decision public on Tuesday afternoon via a video announcement. “When the president visited Utah last month, he said I was a fighter. I’ve always been a fighter. I was an amateur boxer in my youth, and I’ve brought that fighting spirit with me to Washington,” he said. “But every good fighter knows when to hang up the gloves. And for me, that time is soon approaching.” .

I think there should be a term limit on all of congress. Loved or hated they should be gone after 8 years just like a President.

Trump carried Penn. by a very slight margin as well a several other states.
Now we have a wide open seat in Utah.
With the Senate at 51 -49 it obviously takes only 2 seats for the Dems to take over the Senate.
I think this is 1 seat they have a very good chance at given Trump's very small margins and the events of 2017.

I think there should be a term limit on all of congress. Loved or hated they should be gone after 8 years just like a President. I agree term limits would he great and cut off the GRAVY TRAIN pay and benefits and let them buy their own like everyone else. Then they have to live with what they voted for. |

What about a Congressman who has served 4 terms (8 years) and then decides to run for Senate ? Also. A Senator's term is 6 years. What are you thinking for them? 2 terms (12 years) ? |

Exactly.. we have some that have been there forever simply because no one bothers to run against them.. Hell I'd vote for a 4 year limit. |

Term limits would let new blood in with new ideas. Hopefully not just followers. Ones that would listen to the people they represent. Will it happen? No because they want to stay on the gravy train.
