We use to have Comcast but I never saw it there either. And what does "not that I have watched it a lot" mean...lol. Exactly that. It is really sleazy.

I have to agree that this reporter smoking pot on air was in poor taste. Whether it is legal or not does not mean you need to encourage it. I have no problem with people smoking pot for genuine medical reasons and believe it should be legal for just that reason but that doesn't mean that recreational use should be accepted or encouraged any more than drinking or smoking should be. All are potentially harmful habits and we don't need to be sending this kind of message for impressionable minds to follow.

One other thing we haven't mentioned yet is this is broadcast all over the USA and it isn't legal all over the USA. I didn't see when it aired and I don't usually watch CNN at home unless there is a disaster somewhere and I'm checking the news.
What's next shooting up on line? Years ago a lot of truckers driving cross country use to use speed. It's a legal drug when prescribed so should they show truckers popping pills too?
I think CNN took a huge step backwards in this case. It isn't cool and when they die of lung cancer can they please bring them back on to show the effects?

Maybe we will see more people smoking pot in the news for a while, then it will eventually become politically incorrect, like being drunk around kids and injecting heroin in public.

I agree with all of the above. I don't watch the news period unless as Joey, said there is a disaster or something. I have watched local or national news in 2 years and don't miss it one bit. The only reason I knew about this was because hubby had on Varney and Company on Satellite radio. Then I saw it on Facebook. As you have all said, just because it is legal doesn't make it right.

I take medication that is not legal without a prescription. Millions and millions of Americans do the same. Is there really any difference between using marijuana in a state where it is legal and using a prescribed medication? As for the truckers being kept artificially alert, IMO that seems like a very dangerous practice. We all need a certain amount of REM sleep. MDs if they are prescribing these drugs for this purpose I believe are negligent at the least. On the other hand, if truckers are using them not as prescribed but because their quotas are onerous, then those quotas are dangerous to everyone and should be changed.

The problem is showing it on TV.
I take a hand full of pills (mostly vitamins or supplements but some prescription) every day. There isn't any difference if the grass is legal but it isn't in all states but CNN is in all states. That's the problem as I see it. It isn't my idea of being cool.
Truckers popping pills is very dangerous but trucking companies look the other way if there loads get delivered on time. So I wouldn't be apposed to when they stop and get weighed they also did a drug test on them. But that's just me, it will probably never happen.

Well...if you look it as a states rights issue then that is one thing to consider. Plus states where it is not legal could have blacked it out if they wanted to.

There is if the marijuana is being used for recreational purposes and not medical purposes. I didn't see the story on CNN but it sounds to me like it was recreational. I don't think that's a good example for the press to be setting.

Did she get high OR did she have some marijuana but not enough to be considered over the legal limit? Just as did someone have 1 or 2 drinks or did that have enough to be over the legal limit and therefore considered drunk?

I agree I say no also. I don't want to turn on TV and see someone getting high. It's just in poor taste.
If I want to see that I'll go to a friends house and watch him.

Doing any kind of drugs for recreational purposes is a bad habit and one that the mainstream, supposedly respectable press, should not be encouraging. That's why the TV censors banned cigarette commercials years ago despite cigarettes being legal. There is no reason to encourage poor, and potentially harmful, habits like that. Just because something is legal doesn't make it morally right.

What has the press to say about this incident? Has it created a stir or been sidetracked by more important news?

It was the joke of a few News talk shows the next day but died down pretty quick. The Press seems to have a pact when it comes to criticizing their own.
