www.theguardian.com/uk-news/live/2017/nov/24/oxford-circus-police-london-tube-gunshots-liveOxford Circus: police stood down after incident in central London – as it happened "This blog will be closing now. Here is a summary of tonight’s events: Police have stood down from Oxford Street after responding to a feared terrorist incident, which turned out to be a false alarm Armed police and officers from British Transport Police rushed to the scene shortly after 4.30pm, after numerous calls of shots fired on Oxford Street and at Oxford Circus tube station, responding, “as if the incident is terrorist related”. Panicked commuters and shoppers ran out of the tube station and took cover in shops, on one of the busiest shopping days of the year - Black Friday - as rumours circulated about what had occurred. People were advised to avoid the area or stay inside if already there. British Transport Police said one woman received a minor injury in the crush as she fled Oxford Circus tube station. Shortly after 6pm, the Met said its response had been stood down. In a statement, it said the first armed response vehicle was on the scene in less than one minute from receiving the first call."

I'm confused.. it was a false alarm so why is this news? Maybe I'm just using horse sense.... It was all over the national news for a long time this afternoon. Just because it thankfully turned out to be a false alarm this time, does not mean there was not chaos in the tube, armed police came from every direction and a large combination of "Black Friday" shoppers, commuters and everyday people including mothers with babies in strollers were thrown into chaos both below and above ground. Look at some the video and newscast of what happened. And remember, London has been hit more than once by terrorists. They well know what a terrorist attack can do to them. If you have ever been near a terrorist attack you never forget. I was near the Boston Marathon Attack and I will never ever forget the chaos in Boston as well as the ensuing manhunt.

🐴ginger, you have very good 'Horse Sense'. I lived through 911. Worked in Queens at the time and was less than a mile as the crow flies from the towers. One thing I have to say about New Yorkers... there was no panic and no chaos during or afterwards. People just rolled up their sleeves and pitched in to help any way they could. Since then there have been a few incidents and a LOT of false alarms. Many of which were handled so well by the Police the general public didn't even know about them.

And I have been underground in the subway system in Boston when something went wrong with the electrical system and suddenly it was all very confusing.
There was a lot of us there at the time.
Some people just panicked and went for the exit which meant getting to the stairs and walking up them to the street.
I was in heels with a briefcase and I got knocked into a pole.
I just stood there. I was alone, nobody to help me.
Every situation is different,
I take ginger's question as honest curiosity, but not the next post.

For someone that whines to Tix Mascot every time someone disagrees with you, you have no problem insulting others. You are the very first one to report an insult to him. The first one. I have posted what dominated the national news for some time today. I have been to London, known their tube system. I saw the video as it was happening. I also posted my own experiences. I am also very curious as to how this all happened.

Both of you: Cool off! Nobody is interested to read your feelings about and opinions of each other. None of you is the subject of this thread, so this goes beyond a mere topic derailment. Consider this as my last warning before I start to use the level meter. Advice: When in doubt about whether to add a post - please don't do it!
