What do you like the best and why, does today's music hold up to that of the past? Will today's artists be 'legends' like the ones we have now? Let's discuss Ok skip the first Poll option LOL

Older music by far is the best. My favs are the 60's, 70's and 80's. I think today there are just too many artists and too many ways to get music heard. The talent field is so washed down the music suffers. Now I admit I am older which probably influences my opinion but give me the older music and musicians any day.

I stopped following popular music and artists around 1990, so I have little knowledge and interest in whatever has been made after that. In the meantime, my old heroes are passing away one by one, but their legacy remains in the form of lyrics and melodies.
Edit: Oh yes, the genres... I like blues, country, folk, pop, rock and soul + all hybrids thereof. I dislike "plastic sounds" and too noisy/screechy music, which only disturbs my inner peace and adds nothing constructive to my creative mind!

There is great and lousy music in every one of those categories.
I picked the 80s only because my parents have a lot of vinyl from the 80s (and I love those old albums) but I'm not sure that it was better or not. I love David Bowie (70s,) lots of bands from the 60s (the British invasion,) and Frank Sinatra and the Rat-Pack (50s.)
I also have a lot of favorites from the 90s (like Nirvana) and personal favorites like Vampire Weekend (2000s.)

I split my vote between the 50's...absolutely love the classic "doo wop" music of that era, which can't be beat imo, and the 80's...that's the era of my teen years and the music I grew up on and it still holds up against anything produced today as far as I'm concerned.

I think there is great music in every decade, a few decades are special I think because there were a time of "revolution" I'm thinking the 60's and the 80's.
The 60's was a new wave of modern music, ie the Beatles and all that, the 80's also saw a new wave of much, literally called "new wave", it was an new era of mainly electronic music which allowed people to do a lot more by themselves without huge expense, so new instruments brought new ideas. It seems like anyone could put a band together, there was an amateur pioneer spirit.
I think things got rather stale after that.
I think they should bring back disco though!
Mind you a lot of new music is cleverly disguised old music! ,

I think that's one of the few genres that I really dislike.

The disco era brings back nostalgic memories. Strangely, I didn't like the music much at the time, but over the years, I have learned to appreciate it increasingly more on the rare occasions when I hear it.
Here are almost 4 hours of retro beat, so knock yourselves out! LOL

LOL You don't always appreciate things untill they are gone, there are some great disco songs, I would not mind seeing a return of some disco, variety is the spice of life. There are good songs in every genre, a place for everything! When I have 4 spare hour I will knock myself out lol. Maybe I will stick it on in the background right now!! I'll see which ones I recognise. I said there are good songs in every genre, know doubt there are some real bad one too lol.

You seem more like a punk-rocker-type.
