I'm retired so if there is ice I stay in. But If I would have to go out I'll try it.

Been walking the dogs on the ice and come to think of it, there were spots that I did sort of walk like a penguin.

Do you have to waddle back and forth? @justbec, I'm surprised Archie doesn't pull you over on the ice.

I sort of walk like that, but it's a defensive posture in case I start to slide, so I can keep my balance.

I normally do the penguin trick when I walk downhill on slick ice, with short steps, side-to-side movements and the body weight tilted a little forwards.

I think it's the bottom of their feet. Scroll down a bit and see HERE

JJ, for sure it helps to have there claws but I didn't know they had pads like a dogs foot. But the clays reminded me we have some spikes we can wear over our shoes. You put your toe in and pull it over your heal. Has several spikes on the bottom. Well I found something that looked just about like them but Photobucket seems to be out of order. I'll try later

I didn't know they had those pads either, Joey, that's the first time I ever thought of going to look at the bottom of a penguins foot. I thought it was very interesting. The pads look a bit on the rough side, that could also help with traction.

Those pads have to be pretty tough to stand on ice like that and for so long. OK here are the things you put on your feet the 4 prongs go on the ball of you foot.

I think I've seen those before, Joey. They look like small snow shoes with spikes.

Another model is like a rubber grip stretch-overs for shoes.

Just remember to take then off before entering shopping malls or public buildings with stone floors. You can slide and hurt yourself badly.
