I change them whenever I need different ones, every 4-6 years on average. I normally choose black/dark brown or grey metal frames.

About as often as I need my prescription changed and like brown too.

I have a lamp on each nightstand, and yes, I do read in bed by the lamplight and sometimes the overhead light as well.
