Volta Redonda, Brazil, in 1997. Not many animals left; dirty and run-down. A pitiful sight, really...

I don't particularly care for zoos. Seeing the flamingos up close was nice, though, but other than that, not much interested in a zoo.

I enjoy going to zoos. Animals are fascinating and fun to observe.

Not sure what the last one was but I've been to several. The local zoo make a huge change on their zoo. On the news each night they show a fast video clip of several different locations and one is the Lions area at the zoo. They have huge rocks they can climb up on and sun them selves, it's really a nice area and they just introduced to lion cubs in the area along with the male and female.
Someone local made a huge donation to revamp the entire zoo.

Question of the Day
When doing a guest platter, what do you pair with cheese besides crackers?
Olives, dip and some salami.

I like to mix up a bit of canned ground ham spread with some mayo, pickle relish and such. Don't know what it's called where you live, toetapping, but Deviled Ham is one name brand here. I also like pimento cheese spread. If it's going to be a long party, I have found that cheese slices can dry out. You can just mix up some shredded cheese with mayo or other creamy substance and that will keep it moist.

Lys and I normally have seedless grapes and sometimes slices of apple with our cheese and crackers, but nowadays, it's very rare due to our diet and weight-loss project.

The thing with zoos is they have to be well run. If they are not, then they should be shut down or made to do better. Sometimes zoos are the only places that certain wild-life can exist in safety. We have come too far with the endangered and extinction levels of animals today. If not for some zoos, some animals would not even exist anywhere.
But I get the people who are saying that it's not a natural way for animals to live. It's sad I guess that sometimes that is the only way they can survive.
At least they are cared for and are alive. Those animals in slaughter houses don't stand a chance. They are made, live and are there for our consumption only. So unless you are a vegetarian, we are all guilty of the abuse of animals in one way or another. Fact.

Haven't been to a zoo in ages. I don't like them really but most are doing a good think I think. They help endangered animals. I love small zoos that take in unwanted or injured animals. We have one near us here that I want to go visit.

They help endangered animals. That is a good point frequently overlooked by anti-zoo activists. I'm sure that some species would have been extinct today if not for such preventive means. But one must be allowed to question the treatment and well-being of animals in such places.

When did you last go to a zoo, and which one? I went to a zoo when I was in Palm Springs a few years ago. It was interesting to see the different species that we don't see here. It seemed like a very nice zoo.
