At what age do you consider someone an adult?
The age of majority in the U.S is 18.
But what constitutes an adult ?
Basically 3 things.
1 - Taking responsibility for your actions.
2 - Making independent decisions.
3- Financial independence.
Until you have achieved all 3 of the above, then I do not consider someone an adult.
Using these 3 criteria, some people never reach adulthood, while others reach it at a very early age.

If you can fight for your country at 18 you should be able to act like an adult. 30 years ago people were holding down jobs, married and having children at 18.

Really??? 18 year olds who are financially independent? 18 year olds who do not drink because it is illegal. 18 year olds who have mapped out their life plans. College. How they are going to accomplish it. Actually in college because college graduates make more money than those who do not have college diplomas. College graduates have more options than those who are not. Researched the job market first. Not taking a dime from anybody...not even for college. Maybe having a gap year so they can declare themselves independent from their parents, have 1-2 jobs, living on their own so when they apply for financial aid only their own assets will be taken into account. That is unless that have an irrevocable trust they benefit from to be used for college. Participating in the political system. Living on their own. A lot of those around are there. Not in Boston. Not in NYC. Not in San Francisco. Or LA. Or DC. Etc.

I graduated from high-school at 16 and moved to NYC, despite loving my family and home in Boston. I took a television internship and moved. I have always been very independent.
However, I know many 25 year-olds and even 30 year-olds who can't even get out from under their parents' wings.
There is no set age. Some people are self-sufficient; other never grow-up.

Whatever, I answered the question the way I believe. If someone can't leave mommy and daddy then they have a problem.

Question of the Day for Friday, July 21st - At what age do you consider someone an adult? There is no fixed age, you become adult when you go through puberty. The law can set an age but it it won't prevent you going through puberty earlier or make you go through puberty at that age if you haven't already. So legally you can have sex with someone who is not a biological adult, ie a child!! Amazing!

I speak fluent French and I studied Japanese until I was 12 or 13, so I would want to learn more Japanese. (I also studied ancient Greek, but I hated that.)
