Tix Mascot , well done for correctly guessing the answer to this week's quiz question. You were asked: True or False? All Ceratopsians had horns.Answer: False. While many Ceratopsian species did have horns, there were a few that didn't, including Protoceratops and Pachyrhinosaurus. Rather than horns, they had bony lumps and ridges on their snouts and over their eyes.Today's entry is a pterosaur from Jordan:Name: Inabtanin Pronunciation: Ee-nab-tah-ninMeaning of name: "Grape Hill Dragon", after a grape-hued hill near where its fossils were discovered.Species: I. alarabiaWingspan: Estimated to have measured around 5 metres.Family: Uncertain. Likely Azhdarchoid.Diet: Uncertain. Possible carnivore/piscivore.First fossils found: Known only from a single, partial skeleton consisting of the upper and lower jaws, four neck vertebrae, a partial left forelimb and an almost complete right forelimb discovered in the Muwaqqar Chalk-Marl Formation of Jordan. Named by K. L. Rosenbach, D. M. Goodvin, M. G. Albshysh, H. A. Azzam, A. A. Smadi, I. S. A. Zalmout, J. A. Wilson Mantilla and H. A. Mustafa in 2024.Lived: 66 million years ago during the Maastrichtian stage of the Late Cretaceous in what is now Jordan.

Is this some kind of intermediate species beween four-legged and flying? This is how pterosaurs walked. They couldn't balance on two legs, so they used all four.

This is how pterosaurs walked. They couldn't balance on two legs, so they used all four. Amazing. I guess that's evolution in the making. How many vertebrae did Mamenchisaurus have in its neck? 16, 17, 18 or 19? If it was one of our long-necked friends, it probably had 19.
