Annoying messages

I think we just let this issue rest for a week or two, since I haven't been notified about any more rank changes after Talira Greycrest received 18 (!) messages about mayor and blank. I'll be rather busy in the near future, but in the meantime, we can ponder the options.

I'm a Treasurer now and the messages have stopped. Thanks!

Do you know if the plugin is open build? If it is, I'll throw it on my test forum to look at the code - I need to get with someone to find out how to pull up JS files in the console again.

I do have some questions for you:

1. What were the original numbers for the Ranks? I only need the first 3 - right now I see they are: 0, 1 and 100.

2. Which rank(s) (and post count(s)) were people having the popup issue before the next rank where the issue went away?


To note: I was having the popup issue until I made my first post here with the current settings. I'm thinking that the 0 post rank is the issue, since the issue went away after I posted - which moved me to the next rank, getting me out of the 0 post range. I'm wondering if this plugin was written when the first post rank was 1 instead of 0. However, I don't see a way to exclude ranks.

OPTION: Set the default message to let new people know that the popup will disappear after they make their first post - and use the rank 0 as a way to get people to, at least, make that first post.

I'm getting with Chris on PBS to see how I can pull up the JS code for the plugin (since it's not open build) to see if there might be some complimentary JS you could add to your global header/footer that can compensate for the 0 rank issue.


EDIT: I now have the JS code to work with. I'll go through it as I have time and see if I can find a solution, complimentary code to solve the issue or a workaround for the issue. I'll post back here with my findings.


EDIT #2: Tix Mascot: Just to note, this may take a bit longer than I expected. I have also looked at the key data and everyone has the exact same data saved - which is confusing. I even reset my post count to 0 (which is also giving me the constant popup again), but my key data still matches everyone else's. This is really confusing, as I had expected my key data to be different having my post count set back to 0 (it was at 4, for adjusting later). I'll have to dig deeper into the code when I have time. In the interim, having a new member just bumped to having 1 post (via Staff Options) or having a new member make a post, should alleviate them getting the popup while I investigate. Please keep my post count at 0 for the time being as I investigate. Thank you.

The number in quotes is the user's ID number. I need to investigate what the 2 numbers in the arrays are for.

NOTE: You may want to get with your designer and see if they can adjust the code box coloration. The top and bottom lines are difficult to read.

Update: @todge has fixed the problem by inserting a code in the global footer. New members no longer receive pop-up messages, but rank up to 1 Mayor immediatelly. Upon creating their first post, they rank up to 2 Treasurer and receive a pop-up salute. Hopefully, this is also valid for all subsequent ranks, but in case anyone should experience more problems wih the new rank salutes, please post about it here in this thread!
